Lorene Bishop

A native of Mason, Lorene Eastman married Preston Bishop on July 23, 1954 and moved to a home on the Williams Ranch Road in Brown County. The home and acreage was purchased by Preston and the couple still reside in the original house which has been remodeled several times.

Mrs. Bishop spent her spare time collecting genealogy and historical stories of Brown County while working as a secretary at the Greenleaf Cemetery office in Brownwood. Jack Denman, a retired Brownwood Realtor, gave Mrs. Bishop a pickup load of old Brownwood Bulletin newspapers which gave her the incentive to continue a history column in the Brownwood Bulletin started by Melba Coursey.

During the 14 years she has been writing columns, she has collected 4 scrapbooks which are available to people interested in the history of Brown County.

Lorene is a member of the Brown County Historical Society and has written a number of articles in the Society's publication. The publication is titled: In the Life and Lives of Brown County People and is printed once a year. Lorene has a column in the Brownwood Bulletin each Sunday about Brown County history. The column is titled Brown County Historical Scrapbook.
