The Sanitation department is in the process of an Alley Conversion of metal dumpsters to the blue curbside rollout collection bins for residents in the 4-block radius between the streets of 4th and 6th running from Coggin St. to Avenue K.
Sanitation is undergoing these conversions for several reasons:
Cost-saving measures- The price of maintaining metal dumpsters has increased over the years compared to plastic rollouts. Safety and Proficiency- Curbside pick-up is safer for trash trucks due to the narrow alleys and obstacles such as gas meters and utility lines. This lessens the chances of accidents.
Beautification- There is a noticeable decrease in the dumping of debris in an alley that has been converted to street-side pickup. Increasing the overall appearance of the neighborhood.
