Brownwood Health Department Update

On June 30, 2020, the Brownwood/Brown County Health Department announced four positive COVID-19 test results and 6 negatives.

  • A female in her 40s, who has had travel out of the county.
  • A male in his 30s, who has had no travel out of the county.
  • A female in her 60s, who has had travel out of the county.
  • A female in her 20s, who has had travel out of the county.

None of the four new positive cases had contact with a known positive. There are currently 14 active cases, three of the active cases are currently hospitalized. There are no active nursing home cases currently. The total positive tests for Brown County are now 77.

The Texas National Guard mobile COVID-19 testing team will be in Brownwood on Wednesday, July 1 from 10 am to 5 pm at the Coggin Intermediate School gym parking lot located at 800 Rogan Street. Testing is done through a partnership of the Texas National Guard, Texas Health and Human Services, and the Texas Division of Emergency Management (TDEM).

Please note that no symptoms are required to be tested, and tests will not be done for anyone under 5 years of age. Registration opens 24 hours in advance online at or by phone. Registration in advance is preferred, however you may register on site.

Brown County Health Department has set up two hotline numbers for questions about COVID-19. The numbers are 325.642.2635 or 325.430.5933. Calls are taken from 9:00 am - 4:00 pm. A health department employee will answer questions and may perform a health screening over the phone. Should you need higher level of care, they will direct you. The purpose of phone screenings is to reduce the congestion in our medical facilities and allow social distancing. Please be patient if you are not directly connected, we will answer calls in the order they are received. If you are planning on going to a physician, please call before arrival.

The City of Brownwood, Brownwood/Brown County Health Department, Brownwood Regional Medical Center, Texas Department of State and Health Services, and the Center for Disease Control and Prevention are closely working together to provide the community with the best health practices.

The City of Brownwood has set up as an online portal with up to date information regarding the confirmed COVID-19 cases, and additional preventative measures.
