Brownwood Health Department Update

On July 2, 2020, the Brownwood/Brown County Health Department received 2 positive COVID-19 test results, 1 negative, 1 recovery, and 1 death.

  • A female in her 70s, resident of a nursing facility
  • A female in her 60s

There are currently 22 active cases, two of the active cases are currently hospitalized. The death was a female in her 70s, and was not a nursing home patient. The total positive tests for Brown County are now 87.

Texas National Guard mobile COVID-19 testing team will be in Brownwood on Sunday, July 5 from 10 am to 4 pm at the Coggin Intermediate School gym parking lot located at 800 Rogan Street. The mobile testing team will be equipped to do 250 tests. Testing is done through a partnership of the Texas National Guard, Texas Health and Human Services, and the Texas Division of Emergency Management (TDEM).

Please note that all who desire to be tested no symptoms are required, tests will not be done for anyone under 5 years of age. Registration opens approximately 24 hours to the site opening. Brown County Health Department has set up two hotline numbers for questions about COVID-19. The numbers are 325.642.2635 or 325.430.5933. Calls are taken from 9:00 am - 4:00 pm. A health department employee will answer questions and may perform a health screening over the phone. Should you need higher level of care, they will direct you. The purpose of phone screenings is to reduce the congestion in our medical facilities and allow social distancing. Please be patient if you are not directly connected, we will answer calls in the order they are received. If you are planning on going to a physician, please call before arrival.

The City of Brownwood, Brownwood/Brown County Health Department, Brownwood Regional Medical Center, Texas Department of State and Health Services, and the Center for Disease Control and Prevention are closely working together to provide the community with the best health practices.

The City of Brownwood has set up as an online portal with up to date information regarding the confirmed COVID-19 cases, and additional preventative measures.
