The City of Brownwood honors Assistant Chief James LeMond with the Brownwood Fire Department after 27.5 years of dedicated service.
The retirement ceremony began with an opening prayer by Fire Department Chaplain, David Barnum, followed by the Pledge of Allegiance, led by Assistant Chief James LeMond himself. In line with tradition, the Fire Department made it a priority to honor the family of the retiree, recognizing the essential role they have played in supporting James throughout his extensive career. LeMond’s wife, Juliette, was acknowledged for her dedication and support, enabling James to serve the community of Brownwood over the past 27 years and six months. Special guests and other retirees in attendance were also recognized.
James LeMond began his career with the Brownwood Fire Department on September 25, 1997, and throughout his tenure, he rose through the ranks, demonstrating leadership and commitment to public safety. His career milestones include being promoted to Driver in 2000, Lieutenant in 2006, Captain in 2014, and eventually earning the title of Assistant Chief of Fire Prevention & Investigations in 2021. He also holds several prestigious certifications from the Texas Commission on Fire Protection (TCFP) and has continuously expanded his expertise in fire prevention and investigation, including certifications as a Master Fire Inspector, Master Fire Investigator, and Master Structure Firefighter. Lemond’s career has culminated a long list of accomplishments, including his graduation from the prestigious Texas Fire Chiefs Academy in 2023.
James’ dedication to the community also led him to serve as the first Assistant Chief of Fire Prevention in the city of Brownwood, a pivotal role in reshaping the Fire Marshal position. He was instrumental in taking the department’s operations paperless and developing the city’s school fire prevention program, which now includes a fully ADA-compliant inflatable safety house.
Throughout his career, LeMond also wore many hats, including maintaining the fire department’s facilities. His contributions went far beyond his core responsibilities and served as a testament to his work ethic and commitment to the department’s success.
The retirement ceremony included heartfelt presentations, with LeMond receiving a commemorative helmet and axe from the City of Brownwood. City officials and colleagues shared their gratitude, and members of the audience had the opportunity to express their appreciation for Lemond’s decades of service. In closing, Assistant Chief Horton expressed gratitude for LeMond’s work and dedication, particularly in shaping the new Assistant Chief of Fire Prevention position and his commitment to the community during times of emergency.
James LeMond will begin a new chapter in his career with the Brownwood Independent School District, and the City of Brownwood wishes him the very best in his new role.
